    American Grandmaster Gata Kamsky is one of the mysterious persons in the modern chess history. Having played the World Chess Championship in 1996 he decided to quit playing. It seemed that forever- Kamsky studied medicine and then got the diploma of a lawyer. But: the first love is unforgettable and nine years since he is back to professional chess.     28.11.2005   World Chess Cup 2005 Opening Ceremony

    The World Chess Federation (FIDE) and Government of Khanty-Mansiysk Autonomous RegionYugra have reached an agreement in respect of the organization of the 2005 World Chess Cup in which leading GMs of the planet compete. 127 participants from 48 countries arrived in the capital of Yugra. Unfortunately, GM Vladimir Akopian of Armenia failed to come due to the health problems.    Read more...

    28.11.2005   Press conference of Kirsan Ilyumzhinov and Alexander Filipenko

    27 November 2005 at 3:00 pm local time the Governor of Khanty-Mansiysk Autonomous Region Alexander Filipenko and FIDE President Kirsan Ilyumzhinov made the first symbolic moves in a game Ivanchuk-Sibriaev. And just half an hour later they gave a press conference to the accredited journalists who had come to the World Cup.
